FROM DISASTER TO REGENERATION & INDEPENDENCE
In the aftermath of the deluge in 2015, Chennai witnessed unprecedented support for rescue and relief measures. The timely outpouring of humanitarian assistance and selfless service saved human lives, protected the vulnerable groups and helped in quick response to the needy.
Various local groups were active during the relief phase, working on a well- established command and control structure. In our experience, that structure delivered great results.
We need to now focus on activities focused on rehabilitation. The flooding demolished social and economic fabrics; the aim of the rehabilitation is to support rebuilding activities aimed at restoring those fabrics and enable the displaced and affected people to re-launch their normal individual, social, cultural and working lives.
